Directions to Castle Rock Hostel

From Train Station (Waverley Station) and Airport Bus Terminal:
the station exit is on a street called Waverley Bridge (the Airport Bus terminus/final stop is just across the road), on exit you will see the castle looming above! We are located just to it’s left, it’s a 5 minute walk though it is up-hill all the way! sorry it's at the top of the hill but castles usually are and we wanted you to enjoy your holiday next to the castle not next to a noisy grubby train station J. So head in that direction by turning left on exit from station, then right – up Market Street (with the park below you on your right) at the top of this road look to the buildings across the road and you will see a passageway with steps named Milne's Court, that takes you through these buildings to the Royal Mile/Lawn Market (or ask the way to the Castle), once through these buildings, you will see a small roundabout at the top of this road, Johnston terrace leads off this junction, we are located 200m on the left. Hint: if you get lost just keep going up-hill, if you end up at the castle you will see us just below.
By Taxi:
from bus or train stations is about £4 – there is no convenient city bus but it’s only a few minutes walk through the historic Old Town
From the Bus Station:
leaving by main exit turn left, it’s a 2 minute walk to Princes’ Street, then turn right then left immediately, you are now on Waverley bridge, you will see the castle looming above! Driving into Edinburgh:
Head for the Castle!
- From the south you need to approach us from George IV Bridge, then turn left at the corner of the Royal Mile with all the construction going on, taking you on to the Lawnmarket, then veer left at the tiny roundabout.
- From the north you need to find Bank St or The Mound (same street – it changes it’s name quickly) and turn right in to the Lawnmarket at all the construction.
Johnston Terrace is one-way and should only be approached from George IV Bridge/Bank St. There is on-street parking from 6.30pm, overnight to 8.30am for free, Sundays free all day, otherwise you need to pay at the meter or local car parks - directions at hostel reception.
